Statement from James Edward Sved
I am an American heritage architect and architectural historian, with extensive experience in historic preservation and environmental resource management, along with regulatory project management in highly regulated federal programs.
As the project manager and director for the restoration of Richmond’s Main Street Station, I led a historic preservation initiative that garnered the prestigious Restoration Project of the Year Award. I hold a Master of Architectural History from the University of Virginia and have previously directed architectural history and historic preservation practices at several major organizations. Additionally, I served as a Regulatory Subject Matter Expert and Principal Project Manager for sensitive naval nuclear programs. My expertise in architectural history has been featured in various educational media, including PBS. I also founded and published the Herald de Paris newspaper and contributed articles on design and architecture to the San Francisco Chronicle, Building Design & Construction Magazine, and others.
Unfortunately, for an extended period, an individual I do not know, David Farrier, has published repeated false and damaging claims about me and my family. These claims should not be classified as journalism; a personal newsletter that fabricates narratives for sensationalism does not equate to a legitimate news organization. The dissemination of such misleading information does not qualify as responsible reporting.
In light of this sustained harassment, I sought a civil restraining order against this individual, which the court ultimately denied, stating it did not wish to rule on a matter involving free speech. Importantly, a refusal to issue an order should not be misunderstood as a judicial endorsement of the false claims or the individual making them.
I refuse to engage in a public discourse with someone who continually spreads falsehoods for an audience. My professional record in architectural history and historic preservation speaks for itself, and I encourage readers to evaluate sources based on their credibility and motivations, rather than the sheer number of allegations they generate.
Thank you.
